Alphabetical Order supports underprivileged children at Collège Melkart, Louaizé, through grants and tuition fee subsidies. Our work with the school’s students and their families facing hardship began with the start of the 2021-2022 academic year. We are conscious of the critical importance of the task that lies ahead as we work to secure grant funding for the children. In the current disastrous economic circumstances, many families of students at the school are in need of support. Our volunteers are working around the clock to raise funds to safeguard the future of these children.

In Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren may be forced to drop out of school as poverty struck families can no longer afford the cost of education following the economic collapse of the country. This is an unprecedented catastrophe in a country that until recently prided itself on the quality of its education.

We strongly believe that education is the only effective way out of poverty. It is integral as it transforms the fabric of society, promotes free will and independent thinking and brings about improved social and economic wellbeing.

About the school

Founded in 1971 by Mrs. Laudy Mitri, College Melkart is a secular Lebanese school affiliated with The Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) which allows our students to prepare for both the French and Lebanese Baccalaureates.
Our college currently has 750 students supported by a teaching and administrative body of 130 dedicated personnel.

Collège Melkart is a school that transcends typical education. It proudly goes the extra mile and puts students in the spotlight of education and invests in their wellbeing. Our motto « Soyons à l’écoute de nos enfants ! » – Let us listen to our children!- proudly guides our every step. Academic Excellence, Civic Action, and Personal Growth are the three pillars that give Melkart its unique and strong foundation to ensure high quality of education and student personal development.

During these difficult times with hyperinflation and devaluation of the Lebanese pound, the school, parents, and teachers are struggling. The unstable economic situation is making it impossible to make ends meet. Paying tuition fees is becoming nearly impossible for middle-class families, while exorbitant operational costs are stacking up.

Since 2019, Melkart has been taking every possible action to maintain its standards, ensuring high quality education, financial equity to all its employees, and standing by families whose incomes are in jeopardy.  Three years of struggles resulted in enormous financial loses, and yet Melkart refuses to lower its educational standards, and firmly refuses to expel students unable to pay overdue tuition fees.

Amid all this, Melkart is struggling to keep its doors open and we are asking for your help to overcome these hurdles. In the absence of any governmental initiative, the only way to survive and to keep pursuing our mission is with the help of our community of students, alumni and friends of Melkart.
