Alphabetical Order supports underprivileged children at Collège Saint Elie, Batroun, through grants and tuition fee subsidies. Our work with the school’s students and their families facing hardship began with the start of the 2021-2022 academic year. We are conscious of the critical importance of the task that lies ahead as we work to secure grant funding for the children. In the current disastrous economic circumstances, many families of students at the school are in need of support. Our volunteers are working around the clock to raise funds to safeguard the future of these children.

In Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren may be forced to drop out of school as poverty struck families can no longer afford the cost of education following the economic collapse of the country. This is an unprecedented catastrophe in a country that until recently prided itself on the quality of its education.

We strongly believe that education is the only effective way out of poverty. It is integral as it transforms the fabric of society, promotes free will and independent thinking and brings about improved social and economic wellbeing.

About the school

The Saint-Elie High School is located in Batroun, a city embedded between two other millennial cities: Tripoli and Byblos and is the fifth institution founded in 1910 by the Venerable Patriarch Elias Hoyek.

Our objective: To educate without discrimination.

Whether rich or poor, regardless of their faith, every child is welcome from kindergarten through to final year. Our three educational pillars, management, teachers and parents, communicate closely and cooperate in order to ensure optimal supervision of our students. The quality of our pedagogical principles and remediation procedures promotes the success of our students in state exams with distinctions. All our students are admitted to universities.

Furthermore, Saint-Elie High School provides a global education to students thanks to:

  • Developing projects aiming at learning about citizenship and human values
  • Dispensing Arts and music classes (songs, music theory, instruments)
  • Teaching Recycling (paper, cardboard, bottles)
  • Increasing awareness of and respect for nature: reforestation, planting
  • Fostering sportsmanship through the learning of different sports disciplines, football, basketball, etc., which allowed some of our students to be invited to Spain, Italy and Serbia to meet young people of their age, attend high level matches and train with highly qualified coaches. Several of them were later able to join Lebanese national teams.
