Alphabetical Order supports underprivileged children at Notre Dame de La Sainte Famille Maronite – Mejdlaya, through grants and tuition fee subsidies. Our work with the school’s underprivileged students and their families began at the start of the 2021-2022 academic year. We are conscious of the critical importance of the task that lies ahead as we work to secure successive years of grant funding for the children. In the current disastrous economic circumstances, many families of students at the school are in need of support. Our volunteers are working around the clock to secure funding to safeguard the futures of these children and extend help to an ever-increasing number every year.

In Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren may soon be forced to drop out of school as poverty struck families can no longer afford the cost of education following the economic collapse of their country. This is an unprecedented catastrophe in a country that until recently prided itself on the quality of its education.

We strongly believe that education is the only effective way out of poverty. It is integral as it transforms the fabric of society, promotes free will and independent thinking and brings about improved social and economic wellbeing.

About the school

“Our Lady’s School of the Sisters of the Holy Family was established in Mejdlaya in 1940. In the beginning, it was a free elementary school run by the diocese of Tripoli. During the Lebanese war, it was destroyed, but the Sisters insisted on the survival and spread of their educational mission. In 1972, the congregation bought a piece of land and built a new building. Since that year, the new building has become the Lady’s School in Mejdlaya. In 1979, the ownership was transferred from the Maronite Diocese of Tripoli to the Holy Family congregation. In 1981 it became a primary school and later became a high school.

The school attracts students from neighbouring Tripoli or Zgharta. It is recognised for the quality of its education, and for the values, virtues and principles it instils in its students. Sainte Famille Mejdlaya aims to nurture open-minded, courageous and accepting human beings, as well as to cultivate in the hearts of its students a spirit of faith and commitment. It is a Christian institution working with the teachings of Christ and trying to be a model of Christian and Muslim coexistence.”

Our teams work to identify and manage education based projects serving lower-income families across the country. We work with these families, students, schools and other stakeholders to advance education in Lebanon.
Proving our impact
From the outset we’ve provided photos and GPS coordinates for every Alphabetical Order project. You can find all project details on the map above.
